Food Pantry

With funding from the NYC Food Assistance Collaborative, Elmcor expanded our food pantry renovating it to a supermarket-style, participant-choice pantry, allowing for greater freedom of choice rather than restrictive selection. Based on the third floor of the recreation building, the pantry serves an average of more than 600 families each week, distributing enough food to prepare more than 7,500 meals and providing referrals to partner organizations for additional services for those families. As a result of the pantry expansion, Elmcor has been able to increase our food distribution by more than double previous weekly amounts, providing options that are family-size specific and participant friendly.

Council for Airport Opportunities Satellite at Elmcor

Elmcor has partnered with the Council for Airport Opportunities (CAO) and Neighborhood Housing Services of Queens to address outreach, employability, and job placement for the neighboring communities of the multibillion-dollar redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport. The mission-aligned partnership was created to ensure local residents are informed of and have access to newly created job opportunities.

Elmcor supplements CAO services with vocational development staff that conducts career planning and job readiness workshops for LaGuardia Airport employment opportunities. To supplement the program offerings, the agency has forged partnerships with a variety of community service, educational, and training providers to support any pre-employment needs of the participants.
